Dr.Scott was a professor in the Catalysis and Petroleum Research Centre of the University of Venezuala, where he served as a member of the academic staff since 1977. Since obtaining his PhD degree at the Reading University, UK(1984), he continued his
research in hydrotreating catalysis and the upgrading of heavy and extra heavy crude oils. He was the leader of the; Catalysis by Transition Metal Sulfides; group and Coordinator of the Centre of Catalysis (Faculty of Sciences, Central University of Venezuela) in Heavy and Extra-Heavy crude oil upgrading. This process involved the use of hydrogen donating and hydrogen precursor compounds to be used in down hole or ground processes. More recently his research has explored the use of ultrasonic irradiation in the preparation of new nanomaterials and for assisting HDS, HDN, HYD.
Dr. Carlos Scott was a Post-doctoral fellow at the Universite des Sciences et Technologies de Lille, Villeneuve D’Ascq, France, 1993. He has also served as principal investigator in a number of FONACIT (National Foundation for Science and Technology), CYTED (Iberoamerican
Programme for Science and Technology for the Development) programmes and has received grants from the European Union for Hydrotreating Catalysts and Petroleum Upgrading.Dr. Scott has been the main research fellow in a number of collaborations with the state Venezuelan Petroleum Industry (PDVSA), and with Universities in Iberoamerica and France, including several studentships with the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS).
The Alberta Ingenuity Centre for In Situ Energy now welcomes Dr.Scott as its Centre Manager.
