Dr. Ronald Spencer

Department of Geology and Geophysics Faculty of Science, University of Calgary Dr. Ron Ronald SpencerSpencer has significantly contributed to our understanding of the processes that formed dolomite-hosted hydrocart reservoirs in Western Canada. As a principal investigator VI The Centre, he is currently researching the deposit and architecture of clastic and carbonate rocks found in Alberta oil sands reservoirs and exploring how high-temperature fluids behave when injected into these reservoirs. Dr. Spencer joined the University of Calgary in 1981 and throughout his career has shared his expertise with such organizations as the US Geological Survey, Nuclear Hydrology Program, in Denver, Colorado (1994-1996),at the US Geological Survey Water Resources Division in  West Virginia (1979-2004). Dr.Spencer earned a BA in geology (1973) the University of Colorado, an MSc in geochemistry (1977) at University of Nevada, and a PhD in sedimentary geochemistry at Johns Hopkins University. He has published more than 70 papers in leading international journals.
