Facilities
Major facilities available to Centre researchers and partners include:
- In Situ Energy Research Facility - The CCIT Expansion is finally complete. It includes the Centre's High Head Bay for pilot plant units and the Surface Science Lab.
- Calgary Centre for Innovative Technology - The Centre is housed within the CCIT, which opened in 2002. CCIT is currently undergoing an exciting expansion which will directly benefit the Centre.
- Applied Geochemistry Group – in the Department of Geology and Geophysics, this group provides instrumentation for chemical and isotopic analyses of solid, liquid and gaseous samples.
- Catalysis for Bitumen Upgrading and Hydrogen Production Laboratory/span> – a $700,000 facility, under the supervision of Ingenuity Centre Co-Director Dr. Pedro Pereira-Almao, with specialized equipment and processes dedicated to development of new catalytic formulations, including the characterization and preparation of enhanced catalysts.
- Geoscience Professional Development Centre – one of six training facilities sponsored by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and only its second international training venue.
- Integrated Thermal Characterization Laboratory – a $20-million, world-class facility for the thermal characterization of conventional and heavy oils and bitumens.
- Petroleum Reservoir Laboratory – being set up by Ingenuity Centre Co-Director Dr. Steve Larter in collaboration with the Geological Survey of Canada. It will partly host the Canadian Analytical Facility for Energy and the Environment, and will feature state-of-the-art petroleum geochemistry instruments and supporting equipment.
- Schlumberger Centre – a $15-million industry - a government-sponsored facility that allows the visualization of computer-generated 3-D images.
- Tomographic Imaging and Porous Media Laboratory – under the supervision of Ingenuity Centre Lead Researcher Dr. Apostolos Kantzas, this facility has X-ray CAT scanners, gamma camera systems, X-ray imaging systems, and a new microtomography system.
