Linked Research

The Alberta Ingenuity Centre for In Situ Energy leverages the skills of individual researchers and organizations to develop mutually beneficial research opportunities and advanced training programs.

Our trainees learn in work settings where, with their cutting-edge knowledge and skills, they contribute directly to the success and competitiveness of the organizations that employ them. Industry and institutional participants include: Alberta Rose

  • Applied Geochemistry Group
    – In the Department of Geology and Geophysics, this group provides instrumentation for chemical and isotopic analyses of solid, liquid and gaseous samples.
  • CREWES
    – The Consortium for Research in Elastic Wave Exploration Seismology, a public- and private-sector consortium under the leadership of Dr. Gary Margrave since January 8th, 2008, has made major advances in 3-D seismology techniques. It is supported by 27 public- and private-sector partners, including some of Canada’s top energy companies.
  • The Geological Survey of Canada
    – The GSC is working with Dr. Steve Larter’s laboratory to partly host the Canadian Analytical Facility for Energy and the Environment.
  • In Situ Combustion Research Group
    - An internationally distinguished Chemical and Petroleum Engineering research team with industry partners that specializes in in situ combustion processes for improved oil recovery of light, conventional and heavy oils.
  • Petroleum Reservoir Group
    – A newly formed group led by Dr. Steve Larter in the Department of Geology and Geophysics with research programs that include: classical organic geochemistry and biogeochemistry, petroleum reservoir geochemistry, reservoir engineering and compositional modeling of petroleum accumulations on geological and production timescales, biodegradation and heavy oil research, basin modeling and petroleum systems analysis software development. In this initiative is the BACCHUS2 consortium, involved in the study of biodegradation leading to enhanced production in reservoirs.
  • Canadian Centre for Energy Information
    – Is a non-profit organization created in 2002 to meet a growing demand for balanced and factual information on Canada's energy system.
